The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

The Scorpio RacesThe Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

After having just read Linger, Forever and The Raven Boys, The Scorpio Races was not what I expected from Maggie Stiefvater.

This is a dark novel based on the myth of the water horses. Unlike the amorous relationship of Sam and Grace in the Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy, I kept wondering if these characters realised they were in love. This is a story of obligation, passion and risk.

The audiobook is really well narrated by Fiona Hardingham (Puck) and Steve West (Sean). The dual narrators really enhanced the dual perspectives and made the audiobook very easy to follow. When you get to end, there is further audio from Maggie Stiefvater explaining part of her journey in writing this novel. Having the author’s intention explained makes the story even more meaningful.

Well worth the read.
